Send a trusted APK to one paired TV
Upload an APK to your private library, queue it for one paired TV, and finish installation yourself in the TV’s Android installer.
Before you start
- At least one TV paired to your Pro account.
- The sideload TV edition. The Google Play edition does not offer “CHECK STUDIO INSTALLS”.
- A non-empty APK from a source you trust. Studio does not promise a malware scan.
Upload an APK to the private library
Open the “Install apps” tab and choose “Choose an APK to upload”. Select one .apk file no larger than 300 MiB.
The private library has 2 GiB of space. If an upload is interrupted, use “Retry upload” or select the same file again to resume completed chunks while the upload remains available.
Only upload software you trust. Review the app’s source and permissions; Studio explicitly does not promise that the APK has been malware-scanned.
Queue it for exactly one paired TV
Under the APK in “Your files”, use “Send to paired TV” to select the intended TV, then choose “Send to TV”. Each request is for one selected paired device.
The request is queued; it does not install the app or change your Studio layout. Check “Recent requests” and refresh state when you want the latest reported request status.
Complete the install on the TV
Nothing prompts, downloads, or installs automatically after Studio queues the request. On the selected sideload-edition TV, open Settings → “CHECK STUDIO INSTALLS”, then choose “CHECK STUDIO AGAIN” to refresh pending requests. The Google Play edition does not have this install-delivery feature.
For the request you want, choose “DOWNLOAD APK”. When the download is verified, choose “OPEN INSTALLER”, then review and accept or cancel the Android package-installer confirmation yourself.
This is sideloading, not a Play Store install. Proceed only if you deliberately trust that APK and understand the TV’s security and permission prompts.
Studio cannot confirm installation merely because it queued the request, the APK downloaded, or the installer opened. Finish the confirmation and check the app on the TV.
Interpret the request status correctly
“Queued” means the request is waiting for the paired TV. Failed, rejected, or expired requests did not reach the installer; check the TV and try again if appropriate.
“Installer opened” means the system installer appeared. It does not mean installation succeeded. Confirm the result on the TV itself.
- Deleting an APK removes it from the private library; existing install requests may remain in request history.
- On the sideload TV edition, “CHECK STUDIO INSTALLS” requires a manual check and separate download and installer actions. There is no automatic prompt or install.
- A successful install does not update Studio’s installed-app snapshot. Manually send “SEND APP LIST TO STUDIO” to refresh only the list, or “SEND THIS TV LAYOUT TO STUDIO” to refresh the list and the per-TV layout snapshot together. Sending TV app banners also refreshes the list first.
