Arrange, save, and apply a Studio layout

Edit the visual website draft, save it explicitly, then review and apply it separately on the intended TV.

Before you start

  • Sign in to Studio with your Pro activation code.
  • Send the intended TV’s installed-app list from Settings → Website Sync & Backup if you want Studio to start with that TV’s launchable apps.
  1. Work in the visual draft

Open the “Layout” tab. The screen is a website-draft preview, not a live feed from the TV; the editor marks it “Website draft · not applied”.

In “Your app library”, search apps or IDs, choose the destination in “Add to row”, then use the add button or drag an app onto the screen. Select a box to move it earlier or later, move it to another row, or remove it.

Choose “Add a custom row” to create a row. Rename a row from its edit controls and rename an app in the selected-app panel. “Use name” changes the label across appearances of that app; “Use original” clears the custom name.

Arrange and style boxes and rows in the preview. Hidden apps, suggestions, and exact package IDs remain available under “Advanced · package IDs and visibility”.

  2. Choose whether Home preferences should be included

Some Home controls are explicitly selected in the draft. If you want the TV to keep all its current Home preferences when applying this layout, choose “Keep this TV’s Home preferences” before saving.

That action removes explicitly selected Home/TV preference choices from the draft; it does not undo settings already changed on a TV. Apps, rows, appearance choices, and custom box styles remain separate.

An unset control such as “Keep TV setting” means leave the receiving TV’s current value alone. It does not restore an earlier or factory value.

  3. Save the website layout

Review the preview and the “Unsaved changes” status, then choose “Save website layout”. Confirm the browser’s save prompt after reading what the change will send and may replace.

This writes the shared website layout. It does not apply the layout to a TV, overwrite your separately saved account backup, or alter the TV immediately.

To keep a reusable copy of the current draft, expand “Saved layouts”, enter a name under “Name this draft”, and choose “Save a copy”. The list labels each entry “Previous website layout” or “Named copy” and shows its timestamp. Choose “Load into editor” to load a version; if the draft has unsaved changes, confirm only if you intend to discard them. Loading changes only the editor draft—it does not save the website layout or change a TV. Manually choose “Save website layout” when ready, then review and apply separately on a TV.

  4. Check, review, and apply the saved layout on the TV

On the intended, online paired TV, open Settings → “DEVICE SYNC” → “WEBSITE SYNC & BACKUP” and choose “CHECK STUDIO UPDATES”. You can also open the same screen from Home’s “HELP, SETUP & CUSTOMISATION” box with “SYNC A SAVED LOOK”. The currently hosted signed sideload APK 1.3.28 (code 67) uses this action for both full-layout checks and wallpaper-only commands.

If a new wallpaper-only command is waiting on sideload APK 1.3.28, its first “CHECK STUDIO UPDATES” applies the wallpaper directly to the active profile and stops before loading the saved website layout. No layout, font, colour, or other profile settings are changed. Follow the TV message and choose “CHECK STUDIO UPDATES” again to fetch and review the full layout.

Read the TV’s review screen: the incoming website layout can replace matching local favourites, rows, and hidden apps. TV-only rows that were not explicitly removed are kept. Check warnings about apps missing from that TV’s last-sent app-list snapshot.

Only choose “APPLY TO THIS TV” after reviewing what will change. If you cancel, the TV keeps its current active setup. A different paired TV must separately download and review the saved layout.

Older installed sideload APK 1.3.27 uses “DOWNLOAD SAVED STUDIO LAYOUT” for full layouts and does not support wallpaper-only commands. These steps describe the hosted sideload release; check your installed Play version’s controls rather than assuming its buttons and commands match.

Good to know
  • Saving a website layout and applying it on a TV are two deliberate, separate actions. An offline TV is not updated by a website save.
  • The currently hosted signed sideload APK 1.3.28 (code 67) uses “CHECK STUDIO UPDATES” for full layouts and wallpaper-only commands. Older installed sideload APK 1.3.27 uses “DOWNLOAD SAVED STUDIO LAYOUT” for full layouts and lacks wallpaper-only support. These sideload controls do not establish the controls available in your installed Play version.
  • Use “Undo change” or “Redo” for draft history. Neither changes the saved website layout or any TV.
  • The TV’s final result can differ from the preview: app artwork may not have been copied, TV-local content is unavailable to Studio, and device-only rows may remain.
