Change colors, themes, and app-box styles

Understand what theme presets change, how screen and box colors are scoped, and how row or per-box overrides take priority.

  1. Try a built-in or published theme

Open the “Themes” tab and choose a look. Confirm the prompt before applying it to the editor. A theme changes the draft wallpaper, colors, and shared box/focus appearance.

A theme replaces the draft’s single wallpaper selection; if the draft has a slideshow, choosing the theme also stops that draft slideshow. Apps, rows, Home controls (including clock and weather), and custom row or individual box styles stay as they are.

Custom row and per-box styles take priority over the theme’s shared box look. The TV and saved website layout remain unchanged until you save and apply the layout.

  2. Restore the look you had before the last theme

After choosing a theme, return to Layout while the same Studio editing session is still open. Use “Restore previous look” and confirm to restore the prior draft wallpaper, colors, font, and shared visual styling.

This is a session-only undo of the previous look, not a restore point for a TV. Apps, rows, custom box styles, and TV controls are not part of that appearance restore.

To keep a version for later, save a named layout copy before replacing it. The temporary restore control is not a substitute for a saved version.

  3. Set screen colors or a custom accent

In the visual preview, click “Screen / wallpaper” to open “Screen & wallpaper”. In “Accent & screen colours”, select “Keep TV colors”, “TV default accent”, “From wallpaper”, “White”, or one of the named accent colors.

For a custom accent, expand “Advanced · enter your own accent”, enter a six-digit hex value or use the color picker, then choose “Use custom color”. Read any contrast warning before applying it.

The optional screen-color controls cover Background, General text, and Row headings. Choose a hex value or picker color, then click “Use color”. “Keep TV color” clears only that selected value. “Clear screen colours” clears the screen palette from the draft.

  4. Set shared app-box defaults or a targeted template

Under the preview, expand “All app boxes · size, surface, labels, focus & colours” to adjust shared box size, tile style, corner style, label style, focus style/intensity/animation, icons, backgrounds, and default app-box colors.

The app-box color controls set optional “App box backgrounds” and “App box text” defaults. A row can override those defaults, and one selected app box can override its row.

Open the “Box templates” tab or the template button on a row/box style panel. Apply a template to all boxes, one row, or one placement. When existing custom colors or corners in that target will be replaced, Studio asks first. Custom app icons are kept.

After changes, choose “Save website layout” and separately review and confirm on the TV. A preset or template selection alone affects only the website draft.

Good to know
  • “Keep TV colors” means the current TV colors are left alone on apply; it does not restore a prior color choice. Row and individual box styles are separate from global screen and box colors.
  • When a draft explicitly asks the TV to keep its unselected wallpaper or colors, the updated TV app is required to honor that intent. Older installations may apply both saved appearance selections.
  • Contrast checks are guidance, not a guarantee that every TV, wallpaper, or viewing environment will render the colors legibly.
